A 19th-century Bulgarian town preserved as a museum, and the largest underground Thracian temple in the Balkans at Starosel, with an optional wine cellar visit. Hotel pick-up and professional guide included.
Koprivshtitsa lies in a picturesque mountain valley in central Bulgaria. The whole town is now a museum of the Revival period, with beautiful 19th-century houses. Here lived some of the most eminent Bulgarians: the writers Dimcho Debelyanov and Lyuben Karavelov and the freedom fighters Georgi Benkovski and Todor Kableshkov.
Inside the houses you see original furniture, old weapons, national costumes, traditional crafts and jewellery.
Starosel was a wealthy Thracian city in the 5th century BC. Under the Chetinyova Mogila mound lies the largest underground temple in the Balkans, likely built under King Amatokos II (359–351 BC). In Starosel you can also visit a popular wine cellar and taste wines of the Thracian region.
Good to know: Bring snacks and water. Bring cash in euro for entrance fees.
